Prophet Muhammad Row: Protests, Martrydom, Demolition and Aftermath (SUMMARY)

On June 10, Friday, Muslims rose in protests in many parts of the country, demanding the arrest of BJP's spokesperson Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal. These two people have disrespected Prophet Muhammad and gave derogatory statements. 

States like Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Telengana showed a great number of protesters who came on roads in many cities including the national capital, Delhi. 

Although the protests went peacefully in most of the places, at some places it turned into violence. Reportedly 2 people have been martyred in Ranchi due to the Police firing at the protesters. Other cities like Allahabad, Saharanpur, Delhi also had stone-pelting and violence. 

Curfew was imposed in different violence hit areas. A total of 136 people - 45 in Saharanpur, 37 in Prayagraj, 20 in Hathras, 7 in Moradabad, 4 in Ferozabad, 23 in Ambedkarnagar - have been arrested, as per the police, reported The Quint. 

A similar protest last week resulted in violence in Kanpur after which elaborate security arrangements were made across the state ahead of Friday prayers.

Demolition drive has been started in some cities in the name of punishing the "culprits of violence." Several Muslim activists are being targeted in the process. Afreen Fatima a muslim activist has received a demolition order and her parents are under arrest. 

In the aftermath of the incident, Uttar Pradesh's CM, Yogi Adityanath in a meeting said that "anti-social elements" must be punished.
